Established as a township in 1869 Groesbeck was named for Abraham Groesbeeck. It is located centrally between Houston, Austin, and the Dallas/FT. Worth Metroplex. Several members of its community are struggling with an addiction to alcohol. AA meetings in Groesbeck offers support to anyone in the town that is having issues with a dependence on alcohol. Founded by men who overcame alcohol addiction (Dr. Bob Smith and Bill Wilson) in 1935, Alcoholics Anonymous is an international fellowship that helps others across the world achieve sobriety. The popular 12 Steps method was developed to govern its meetings. The pair later developed the 12 Traditions to bolster the program’s purpose. Both encourage accountability and responsibility from its members. At AA meetings, members share their experience along their addiction journey with attendees. As part of holding themselves, accountable members are encouraged to admit to losing control of their drinking as well as other related shortcomings. Admitting to strangers that you are unable to control your drinking and is in need of help can be intimidating and extremely uncomfortable. You may have second thoughts about going outside of your comfort zone to share intimate details, especially on your first visit. But most people have found the open and honest discussions to be very therapeutic. Our directory also groups AA Texas meetings from other areas in the state.
