Mapleton, Oregon AA Meetings

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) has been around for years helping countless people recover from Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). They are a non-profit fellowship that is not a part of or related to any other organization and raises funds for their activities on their own without any outside help. AA Oregon is a section of this community that uses the “Big Book” as a guide to help guide members to learn a fulfilling life without alcohol. This book is the main literature of the fellowship and within it are guiding principles that can be used by an alcoholic to fight against their addiction. In addition to that, it also includes recovery stories of previous members of the fellowship. What AA meetings in Mapleton try to do is to help patients practice these principles and share and learn from their own stories in an environment that is understanding and supportive of their conditions. Different types of meetings are held for different occasions. Closed meetings can only be attended by members affected by the use of alcohol. These meetings can be discussion-based where all members are allowed to share or a speaker meeting where only one or two members are allotted a large portion of the time from the meeting to speak. There are also open meetings where anyone in the community can attend.
