AA meetings in Southold are held to help people who feel they might be losing control over their drinking. AA is a support group meeting held for people in recovery from alcohol. Its mission is to help its members stay sober through mutual support and sponsorships. Alcohol use disorder is a psychological disorder that’s characterized by a person s excessive drinking where it gets to a stage where they have little or no control over their drinking. When this happens a series of negative consequences follow including risks in the health of the person both physical and mental. Some of the physical side effects include brain damage, heart problems, and kidney failure. Mental issues like depression, insomnia, anxiety, and suicidal tendencies are also a part of the side effects. NY AA meetings are held all over the state to help people dealing with this. There are different types of meetings held in NY. Open and closed meetings are common. Open meetings are available for all attendees even if they are not suffering from alcohol use disorder while closed meetings are the opposite, with a members only policy, giving patients a more private experience.
