AA meetings are programs that are organized to enable the members to stay sober as well as to help and support others to achieve sobriety. This organization is based on the desire to stop drinking, when you decide to attend these meetings that means you have the desire to stop drinking. Many people realize that they need help when a list of relationships have been broken and they have gone deep into binge drinking which means they’ve already been dependent on it. But what’s good about AA meetings is that it’s never too late to start helping yourself. The only thing required from you is the desire to stop drinking. NY AA Meetings happen all around the state in different areas and they follow similar approaches but can come in different packages. Some AA meetings in Eastport are gender specific that only address to one specific gender another meeting type is a traditional type of meeting that goes step by step including the 12 steps to sobriety. There is also speaker/ discussion type of meetings where an initials speaker kicks off the meeting by bringing up topics to get the group discussion going. There is a type of meeting that is advised for newcomers, which is beginner type AA meeting, these meetings are led by more experienced members and they’ll introduce the newcomers to tools available for the steps to sobriety.
