Millions of Americans suffer from what is called alcohol use disorder (AUD). This is a major concern. It is also a major burden economically with alcohol misuse costing the United States economy billions of dollars every year according to the NIAAA (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism). Three-quarters of that total cost comes from binge drinking. This type of drinking can lead to an overindulgence in alcohol which could lead to health problems, and in some cases death. Fortunately, there are several treatment options that can help to curb AUD. One, in particular, that has helped a lot of people who are suffering from alcohol addiction kick the bad habit. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a fellowship between people who meet in one place, interact, and support each other. AA meetings provide opportunities for people who are familiar with the struggles of alcohol addiction to share their respective addiction journeys.
