Siesta Key, Florida AA Meetings

Siesta Key is a barrier island off the southwest coast of Florida, located between Roberts Bay and the Gulf of Mexico; part of the island lies within the city boundary of Sarasota, but the majority of the island is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sarasota County. If you are in addiction recovery and are visiting, working, or living on or near the island, you may be interested in finding AA meetings in Siesta Key. Beginners in the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) program may have questions about what will happen at their first few AA meetings Florida (such as those in Siesta). Common concerns include whether intrusive questions will be asked, how a person signs up for membership, and whether it’s mandatory to stand up and announce your name along with the statement, “I am an alcoholic.” The answer to the final question is an emphatic “no.” No one is ever expected to speak at an AA meeting unless they want to. At no time should you expect to be questioned or pressured to speak at a meeting; disclosure of any kind is always on a volunteer basis. Most AA meetings are relatively laid back and informal, the primary goal of the AA group is to welcome the newcomer, making beginners feel at home. Signing up for AA membership at any group involves simply declaring you are a member, there are no other requirements and no fees or dues are charged.
