Santa Monica, California AA Meetings

The beachfront city in western Los Angeles County, California has put in place AA meetings Santa Monica to help residents of its large population manage their drinking problems including alcohol use disorder. Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a disease where people drink alcohol compulsively despite its consequences. People are diagnosed with AUD after meeting two or more of 11 criteria in one year period according to the American Psychiatric Association. Based on how many criteria are met, AUD may be mild, moderate, or severe. Regular binge drinking, emotional problems, peer pressure, low self-esteem, different types of abuse, and easy access to alcohol are all triggers for AUD. Millions of people across the world suffer from AUD. The disorder also negatively affects people around the drinker including spouses, family members, friends and associates, and co-workers. Even women who are impregnated by a man who has AUD can be at risk of developing fetal alcohol syndrome. Several treatment methods are used to treat AUD including detox, counseling, medications, group therapy, and support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous or AA. Unlike group therapy which is led by a therapist, AA support groups are led by people who used to have AUD but have maintained sobriety for years. Our directory lists AA California meetings including AA meetings Santa Monica.
