Kingwood, West Virginia AA Meetings

Kingwood is a city in and the county seat of Preston County, West Virginia. For those with alcohol addiction, our online database of AA meetings in Kingwood may be of interest. If you are new to the West Virginia Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) program, you probably have questions about finding the AA group that is best for you. Every AA group has its unique character: some groups are relatively unstructured and are known to employ humor to help offset some of the seriousness of addiction. Others use more of a rigid format to facilitate meetings. But, despite the differences in AA groups, there are some basic commonalities. For example, most AA groups offer discussion groups, speaker meetings, and Big Book/12-Step meetings. Discussion meetings involve a round-robin approach of allowing each member to share their experience, strength, and hope in recovery. Discussion meetings can be either open or closed meetings; open meetings for anyone who wants to attend and closed meetings meaning only those who wish to stop drinking can attend. Speaker groups usually involve an open meeting format. During a speaker meeting, a preselected AA member tells the rest of the group what it was like before AA, what happened to cause a positive change, and what it’s like today (about living a sober life). A Big Book or 12-Step study group involves discussion on one of the 12-Steps at each meeting.
