Meeting Notes
CLOSED FOR THE WINTER! We invite you to join us this summer as we embark on an enriching journey to read through the Big Book. Our meetings will begin with a speaker, followed by a discussion of the Big Book, where we will share insights and perspectives. While copies of the book may be available, we encourage all participants to bring a copy and dress appropriately for the occasion. Please note that this is an open and inclusive meeting. We welcome individuals in all stages of recovery, especially those who have been marginalized and disproportionately impacted by Alcoholism & Substance Use Disorder. We strive to provide a safe and supportive environment for all members, including those who identify as LGBTQIA+, gender non-conmforming, women, and the BIPOC communities. As we gather together, rain or shine, we hope to create a space where we can all grow, learn, and heal. We are committed to fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect among all participants, so that we may build a stronger and healthier recovery community together. We look forward to meeting you and embarking on this journey together.

Types of AA Meetings
Big Book: AA meetings in Maine often use the Big Book to spark discussions. This anthology, about real women and men who overcame alcohol use disorder, is used to inspire clients.
Discussion: In Maine, AA discussion meetings are based around a central theme. Once the leader opens the meeting using the group’s chosen format, they will share the meeting’s topic, which normally derives from an AA text, such as the Big Book. After the leader shares a personal reflection, others can join and share their insights.
LGBTQ: Selected AA chapters focus on providing a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community, and generally welcome LGBTQ+ allies. These groups prioritize members’ recovery and sobriety within a non-heteronormative context.
Newcomer: In Maine, AA newcomer meetings are available for individuals seeking help for alcoholism. They are geared toward people who are new to the AA program and want to learn more about what it includes. The meetings may include an open discussion or follow a more structured format.
Open: In Maine, open AA meetings are informative and accessible, welcoming alcoholics and nonalcoholics alike. The meetings include information on what the AA program entails, how the 12 step recovery model works, and what members will experience. They’re ideal for someone new to the organization as well as friends, relatives, and loved ones of those seeking support.
Young People: AA meetings for young people are intended for members in early adulthood, usually in their late teens and twenties. These groups focus on the experiences and issues that young people may face in their recovery.
