Types of AA Meetings
Closed: Closed AA meetings in Delaware are not open to the public. These are restricted only to members or anyone who has a drinking problem and wants to find help. Discussions are informal, centering on topics related to alcohol addiction and recovery.
Discussion: In Delaware, AA discussion meetings are structured around one core discussion topic. The leader will begin the meeting by sharing a subject from an applicable AA text, such as the Big Book or Daily Reflections. Then, others can join in to share their inputs, reflections, and recovery stories.
Newcomer: AA newcomer meetings in Delaware are designed to introduce the program to people who are just starting their sobriety journey. Experienced members typically lead the program and the discussions often center on Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 of the 12 step recovery model.
Speaker: AA participants in Delaware may seek inspiration from motivational speakers. Speakers are usually AA alumni and use a blend of humor, faith, charm, and raw emotions to strengthen AA members’ resolve against alcohol.
