Types of AA Meetings
As Bill Sees It: As Bill Sees It is a collection of essays and reflections from AA’s founder, Bill W., about the organization and its purpose. The book is often referenced in AA meetings to encourage members to individually and collectively discuss their recovery.
Closed: Closed AA meetings in Colorado are restricted to just members or anyone who has a drinking problem and wants to seek help. Discussions are informal. Everyone is encouraged to participate and share about their alcohol addiction and recovery journey.
Discussion: AA discussion meetings in Colorado are based on a central topic related to alcohol addiction and recovery. A member will open the meeting by reading a related passage from a relevant AA text, such as the Big Book or Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions. Then, other members can share their input on the subject as they feel led.
Literature: Colorado literature-centric AA meetings are peer group meetings for men and women who are impacted by alcohol addiction. Following a 12-step program, these meetings focus on studying AA literature, including the Big Book of AA, AA workbooks, and other writings by AA co-founder Bill W and other leaders. The meetings are free to attend.
