Types of AA Meetings

Open: In Maryland, anyone in the community can attend open AA meetings. This includes individuals seeking treatment for alcohol use disorder and nonalcoholics who want to understand more about the program. Family, relatives, and loved ones of alcoholics can attend AA meetings to learn about addiction and what to expect as their loved one recovers.

Seniors: Select AA chapters and meetings may be made up of seniors, defined as members who are at least 60 years old. Discussions can include the impact of the aging process and the experiences of older participants and the challenges they face for their recovery.

Virtual: AA groups may opt to hold their meetings virtually. Online sessions can be closed or open and are typically conducted on free platforms such as Zoom.
